Amino Acid

L-Arginine

A precursor to nitric oxide that dilates blood vessels, supports circulation, and enhances athletic performance.

What It Is

L-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid and the sole precursor for nitric oxide (NO) synthesis in vascular endothelial cells. NO causes smooth muscle relaxation, widening blood vessels and improving blood flow throughout the body. This underlies its role in cardiovascular health, erectile function, wound healing, and athletic endurance. Arginine also stimulates growth hormone release and immune function.

What It Does

  • Produces nitric oxide for vasodilation
  • Improves blood flow and circulation
  • Enhances exercise performance
  • Supports cardiovascular health
  • Stimulates growth hormone release

Clinical Considerations

Avoid in patients with herpes simplex (may promote viral replication). Caution in patients with low blood pressure. Not recommended in acute myocardial infarction. A clinical assessment is required.
