L-Glutamine
The primary fuel for intestinal lining cells — repairs leaky gut, reduces inflammation, and preserves lean muscle mass.
What It Is
L-Glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid in the bloodstream and the primary energy substrate for enterocytes (intestinal lining cells). It is critical for maintaining gut barrier integrity, preventing and healing leaky gut syndrome, and supporting the mucosal immune system. During periods of intense physical or metabolic stress, the body's glutamine demand exceeds its synthesis capacity, making supplementation important for athletes, those recovering from illness, and patients with gut pathology. It also reduces carbohydrate cravings by supporting stable blood glucose.
What It Does
- Primary fuel for intestinal epithelial cell repair (leaky gut)
- Reinforces gut barrier integrity and tight junction function
- Preserves lean muscle mass during weight loss or illness
- Reduces carbohydrate cravings and supports blood sugar stability
- Supports immune cell proliferation within the gut-associated lymphoid tissue
Clinical Considerations
Generally very well tolerated. Caution in patients with severe hepatic encephalopathy (glutamine is converted to glutamate and ammonia). A clinical assessment is required.
