Lysine
An essential amino acid important for collagen formation, calcium absorption, and immune function.
What It Is
Lysine is one of the nine essential amino acids — the body cannot synthesise it and must obtain it from diet or supplementation. It is a direct precursor to carnitine (fat metabolism), a key structural component of collagen cross-linking, and has well-documented anti-viral properties, particularly against the herpes simplex virus. It also enhances calcium absorption at the gut level.
What It Does
- Essential for collagen synthesis
- Supports calcium absorption
- Antiviral properties (especially against herpes family viruses)
- Precursor to carnitine (energy metabolism)
- Supports immune function
Clinical Considerations
Generally very safe. Very high doses may cause gastrointestinal discomfort orally; IV delivery avoids this. A clinical consultation is required.
